" on this side of the mirror "

"A aquesta banda del mirall"

Next Thursday,24th October, the Espai 13 will be showing Jesus Galdon's "On this side of the mirror", the first exhibition in the Anatomies of the Soul cycle selected by Ferran Barenblit
"On this side of the mirror" tries to demonstrate that we always speak about and show what is just on " the other side of the mirror ". The world of representation, of the imagination, of reflection - in fact, the world of Alice in Wonderland. But Jesus Galdon is not looking into the other side of the mirror. He is exploring the geography of the human being and its identity.
He presents an installation in which hang three imaginary canvas maps, cut out in the shape of a person, and three methacrylate outlines criss-crossed by rivers, mountains and towns respectively. All are life-size. The viewer enters a space, an imaginary geography, and becomes the only reference point in this cartography. The cut-out on the canvas map, depicting an imaginary geography, can be linked to the clothes hanging on the other side of the space, which dress an identity -
which give meaning to it and in the final instance (if we interpret them as Adam and Eve) give life to it.
Jesus Galdon is not trying to portray anyone. Nor is he exploring that imaginary world on the other side of the mirror. He stays on "this side of the mirror" and reflects on the individual.
The inauguration of the Anatomies of the Soul cycle will take place at the Joan Miro
Foundation on 23rd October at 10.00 a.m.
