Wim Delvoye (°1965, Wervik) attempted to secure street credibility for his art by means of painting on ironing boards, shovels, gas canisters, football goals in stained glass and decorated concrete mixers. His work gained international recognition at the Dokumenta IX of 1992 in Kassel. In 1998, he had a one-man exhibition at Openluchtmuseum voor Beeldhouwkunst (the open-air sculpture museum Middelheim) in 1998. Wim Delvoye's work gives ample proof a his great power of imagination. By taking up ordinary implements and appliances and coating them with a new skin, he calls forth a serious of free associations, ranging from historical references over artistic interpretations to economical consequences. |
