MARUKE VAN WARMERDAM's exhibition at Malmö Konsthall comprises sculptural installations, works on pap er and films dating from 1994 until the present. The exhibition will offer rich insights into this artist's multifaceted body of work. MARUKE VAN WARMERDAM's art is characterized by a great deal of playfulness. an energetic tempo, a unique imagination, and a very special sense of humor which always produces unexpected results. For this reason, it is difficult to place her work in any specific art category. She is interested in everything around her, from the small and insignificant to the large and striking. Marijke van Warmerdam's work is simple and very straightforward, and repetition is one of its recurring themes. Her latest work, Bera is the Ball, is a good example of how she can address a variety of situations playfully. MARUKE VAN WARMERDAM was born in Holland in 1959 and lives and works in Berlin. She is one of the most sought-after contemporary artists today, and participated in the 1995 Venice Biennial, documenta X in Kassel (1997), and in the fall biennials in Sydney and Berlin (September and October 1998, respectively). This is Marijke van Warmerdam's first major exhibition in the Nordic Countries. During December 1998, Marijke van Warmerdam's film Another Planet will be shown on Sveriges Television (a Swedish state-sponsored national television channel) as a part of the Arkipelag TV project (Stockholm Cultural Capital of Europe 1998). In the fall of 1998, she will also be exhibiting at Tensta Konsthall (Sep-tember) and the Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw (October). You are cordially invited to the press opening on Thursday, November 12, 1998 at 11 a.m. The artist will be present. |
